  10. The war began with Germany's invasion of Luxembourg on August 1.  The Battle 
  11. of the Frontiers lasted until August 26, by which time the French and Germans 
  12. had fought inconclusively on their border but the Germans had swept through 
  13. Belgium to the French border there.
